This last weekend I had dinner at a friend's house. It's something I've done dozens of times before, but this time our host's Indian dishes tasted more flavorful, our laughing carried on for much longer, and even our stories were somehow more compelling.

We didn't leave our friend's house until dessert had cozily settled into our stomachs. Even as we walked through her front door at 11:30 pm, Darcy had to be cut off from telling us another story.

As we piled into our car both exhausted and refreshed, Allie said, "I feel like we have family again."

Dinner with our loved ones is just one small thing the pandemic has taken from us. And I have missed it.
